Psalm 52- 1
- Psalm 52 For the director of music. A maskil [1] of David. When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him: "David has gone to the house of Ahimelech."
- 1
- Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
- 2
- Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.
- 3
- You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Selah
- 4
- You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!
- 5
- Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
- 6
- The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying,
- 7
- "Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!"
- 8
- But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever.
- 9
- I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.
Psalm 102- 1
- Psalm 102 A prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament before the LORD.
- 1
- Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry for help come to you.
- 2
- Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.
- 3
- For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers.
- 4
- My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food.
- 5
- Because of my loud groaning I am reduced to skin and bones.
- 6
- I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins.
- 7
- I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof.
- 8
- All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse.
- 9
- For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears
- 10
- because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
- 11
- My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
- 12
- But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.
- 13
- You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.
- 14
- For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity.
- 15
- The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.
- 16
- For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.
- 17
- He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.
- 18
- Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD:
- 19
- "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth,
- 20
- to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death."
- 21
- So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem
- 22
- when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.
- 23
- In the course of my life [1] he broke my strength; he cut short my days.
- 24
- So I said: "Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations.
- 25
- In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
- 26
- They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
- 27
- But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
- 28
- The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."
Psalm 7- 1
- Psalm 7 A shiggaion [1] of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, a Benjamite.
- 1
- O LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
- 2
- or they will tear me like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
- 3
- O LORD my God, if I have done this and there is guilt on my hands--
- 4
- if I have done evil to him who is at peace with me or without cause have robbed my foe--
- 5
- then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust. Selah
- 6
- Arise, O LORD, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God; decree justice.
- 7
- Let the assembled peoples gather around you. Rule over them from on high;
- 8
- let the LORD judge the peoples. Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.
- 9
- O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.
- 10
- My shield [2] is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
- 11
- God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day.
- 12
- If he does not relent, he [3] will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.
- 13
- He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.
- 14
- He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.
- 15
- He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made.
- 16
- The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head.
- 17
- I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
Psalm 37- 1
- Psalm 37 Of David. [1]
- 1
- Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong;
- 2
- for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
- 3
- Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
- 4
- Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
- 5
- Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
- 6
- He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
- 7
- Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
- 8
- Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil.
- 9
- For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
- 10
- A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
- 11
- But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
- 12
- The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
- 13
- but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
- 14
- The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.
- 15
- But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
- 16
- Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;
- 17
- for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.
- 18
- The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever.
- 19
- In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
- 20
- But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke.
- 21
- The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously;
- 22
- those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off.
- 23
- If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm;
- 24
- though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
- 25
- I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
- 26
- They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.
- 27
- Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever.
- 28
- For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;
- 29
- the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.
- 30
- The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
- 31
- The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip.
- 32
- The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives;
- 33
- but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial.
- 34
- Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
- 35
- I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil,
- 36
- but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found.
- 37
- Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future [2] for the man of peace.
- 38
- But all sinners will be destroyed; the future [3] of the wicked will be cut off.
- 39
- The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
- 40
- The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
- This psalm is an acrostic poem, the stanzas of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
Psalm 27- 1
- Psalm 27 Of David.
- 1
- The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?
- 2
- When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, [1] when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
- 3
- Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.
- 4
- One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
- 5
- For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.
- 6
- Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
- 7
- Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me.
- 8
- My heart says of you, "Seek his [2] face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek.
- 9
- Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior.
- 10
- Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
- 11
- Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
- 12
- Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.
- 13
- I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
- 14
- Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Psalm 19- 1
- Psalm 19 For the director of music. A psalm of David.
- 1
- The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
- 2
- Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.
- 3
- There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. [1]
- 4
- Their voice [2] goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,
- 5
- which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
- 6
- It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.
- 7
- The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
- 8
- The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
- 9
- The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous.
- 10
- They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.
- 11
- By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
- 12
- Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults.
- 13
- Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.
- 14
- May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 117- 1
- Psalm 117
- 1
- Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples.
- 2
- For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.
